New year resolution to stay healthy and happy

We have reached year end and so it is pressure to make resolutions to do things that would make us healthier and happier.  Since health is a necessary for happiness, here’s some pint check list to prevent or delay lifestyle disease by decade, maybe more and  it would be mantra to stay healthy and happy life :

  1. Maintain Blood pressure: Try to keep blood pressure under 130/90 mm-Hg. High blood pressure is defined as a systolic (higher reading) blood pressure above 140 mm-Hg and a diastolic (lower reading) pressure of more than 90 mm-Hg. Results of meta analysis of some studies with more than millions of participants showed that every 10 mm-Hg fall in systolic pressure lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke or heart failure.
  2. Lower bad cholesterol: Try to keep bad cholesterol lower, but shouldn't neglect the good. There is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol, and while your low density lipo protein should be below 100 mg/dl, high density lipo protein (HDL) should be well over 45 mg/dl for men and over 55 mg/dl for women. An HDL reading of 60 mg/dl or more cancels out one heart disease risk factors, which include family history, high blood pressure, smoking, obesity or inactivity, among others.
  3. Maintain blood sugars normal: About 65 million people have diabetes in India and an equal number have insulin resistance that is a precursor to developing the disease in the near future. Healthy blood sugar levels after eight hours of fasting are below 100.
  4. Manage weight: Try to lose weight and fat as extra weight means that the heart has to work harder to supply blood to the body. By exercising for 20-30 minutes each day helps to keep fit. The routine must include a combination of aerobic exercises such as brisk walks (speed of at least 4-5 km/hour), yoga and weight training. Belly fat is bad news. A waist-size larger than 38 inches for men and 35 inches for women raises the risk of metabolic disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure & heart disease.
  5. Don’t worry, be happy: It is not work that kills men, it is worry. Work is healthy; you can hardly put more on a man than he can bear. But worry is rust upon the blade. It is not movement that destroys the machinery, but friction.
  6. De-stress: There are stress of work , financial crisis, problems in relationships, being bullied, or taking care of an ailing parent, child or partner all lead to early death. Again Stress will not cause any single disease, not even ulcers. It makes several diseases and put a comma in our daily life. There are also more like long working hours, night shifts at office or threats of current status lead to stress.
  7. Quit tobacco: Tobacco will kill you prematurely. In the past 50 years, 20 million people have died prematurely because of smoking. Here are the some disease caused by tobacco:Lung Cancer , COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease),Heart Disease,Stroke, Asthma, Diabetes, Blindness

 So let’s take a new year resolution to stay away from tobacco.
